Great news, horse! Ummmm ..... errrrr ...... does this mean if you find me with one too many fish, from an honest mistake, you might ..... ummmm ..... "recount" them for me? :bigsmyl2: Just kidding. I always thought that justice should be blind. Had someone ask me to fix a ticket once, and I paid it for him. Was too bashful to tell him I thought that was wrong, and too timid to ask the Judge for a break. Friends CAN be costly, but .... not nearly so costly as violating your own principles. You may need to remember that on occasion in your work. It matters.

Horsesoldier, on a more serious note, we really NEED more men of faith in our gov't positions. I am sure you'll do a great job. It takes a special type of person to work in gov't these days, but at least for now, I believe you have a really good leader at the top in our new President. Guys like you should start to become more appreciated. I can tell all the way down here to Ga. that your heart is really in it. Once you get there, don't let any "flaws" in it get to you. Just note them, remember them, and bide your time and hope and pray you'll wind up in a position to do something about them.

There was an article recently in Gilbert magazine, that came in 2 parts. A rather lengthy story of a game warden who had the temerity to tell his upper mgt. where they were going wrong, and why, and what might be done about it. He was eminently qualified scholastically and experiencially, and was much more knowledgeable than his "business mgt" type superiors. He just tried to educate them, and get them to realize their mistakes, that could and likely would have cost the nation money and problems with our wildlife. Then some of them tried to get him fired, and indeed, dismissed him. He fought it in court and was awarded his job back and back pay, but it was a long and gruelling fight.

Any time you work in a bureaucracy, you're almost surely to run into the "management" types, who don't really care about the things that they do other than that their superiors like the way they administer their decrees. Those types don't seem to want to expose info upwards that might contradict their current impressions and ideas. Just think when you're dealing with these types, and do your best, and ... there's really nothing to do but leave the rest to the Lord. I admire you and all who can deal with that kind of stuff. It's one of the greatest challenges a sincere man who cares about what he does will ever meet.

No intent here to discourage you, just to prepare you if you run into something like that. Too many good and truly caring folks don't have the ability to deal with the bureaucracy effectively. That's one trait that a good man has to develop, and it ain't easy. God be with you, my friend.

I understand Blackwater. I currently work for federal land management agency here in Idaho. Over the past few years I have come to adopt a problem solving attitude as it relates to work. Every day my immediate supervisor and I ask ourselves, are we solving problems or are we creating them? It is a pain to deal with some federal employees I admit, but ultimately if things are to change good people have to learn to make things happen.

Thank you all for your prayers, kind words and encouragement! My teachers in school always told me that hunting, fishing, and trapping would never help me find a career. As it turns out, this sets me apart from other applicants. I am heartened to find an agency that values my lifestyle!

And thank YOU for being the kind of guy we need in gov't so much today! Gov't can do such great things. Why some insist on the other, I'll never understand.

Sorry I'm getting late to the game. But I'm a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason" and unanswered prayers.

I'm sure God has something else in mind.

Prayers sent and good luck to you, sir.

Well, Horsesoldier, I have to admit I'm disappointed. But your life may be like mine. I had plans and aspirations and dreams of what I might do and be able to achieve. But God had other plans for me, and He always wins out in the end, if we'll simply let Him lead us. Many of the most successful folks I know either can't or don't get what they want, and change to another path, and wind up being SO gifted in that area, that they wind up happier and more satisfied in life than they ever would have had they gotten what they thought they wanted. But you seem to be the kind of guy we need in that type of position. I can't help but wonder if that's why they didn't pick you. I've seen SO many times when totally incapable people were selected for promotion, totally because they could be "handled" from above. I have no idea if this was at work in your case, but I know better than to eliminate it as a possibility any time gov't is the entity doing the choosing. Maybe some of that will change, and maybe your field might see some "house cleaning" with the new admin. How long would that take, and how permanent would those changes be, though, none of us can know, even IF they occur.

Just go with God, wherever He leads, and you'll wind up where He knows you NEED to be. I've never see that err, and that's over a lifetime of observing things like this. Keep the faith, and keep on truckin'. SOMETHING is out there just waiting for you to come along. I admire your persistence and courage and determination. Those are all to rare commodities these days. God bless you, wherever He sends you.
