I was given this fit cutting down some trees for a neighbor. Anyone know anything about it? I'm thinking it's Korea or Vietnam era.188818188819

Pictures would REALLY help
Are there any Letters/Numbers on the container
A/N or FSN numbers would be of great assistance

That "Inspected 1287" might date it.

Since it's painted gray I think it's US Navy. Saw lots of boxes like that when I was in the service. All painted gray.
I have an old box like that with the same latches but different dimensions. The marking on the box is a raised embossing in the metal not stenciled. It says:
AMMUNITION COMPONENT BOX
MOD O 982443-B EE1

I don't know but it's always nice to have some good storage boxes/trunks around and that one looks like it would be a dandy.
Shepherd2 - I had to chuckle when you mentioned the gray paint and your Navy service. I have a friend who is about 83 or so now - he went in to the Navy as enlisted during Korea and then later joined the Naval Reserve and retired as a Captain. He's a great guy but we always kid him as if he paints anything around his barn - he collects old tractors and other "stuff" - it's painted gray . . . guess his old habits are hard to break! :-)

It contained Mk 344 Bomb Fuzes for any of the newer LDGP bombs.
