Colt Lawman?

I'll be looking at one this weekend, any thoughts? Blued with wood grips, don't know the barrel length. Buddy of mine got it when his dad died, knows nothing about it.

It's a fixed sight Mark III action that was available in 2 & 4 inch barrel lengths, 38 special only (For New York City) and 357 Magnum and was blue or allegedly Nickle plated, but I have never seen a nickle one. They are good serviceable guns and will actually stand up to prolonged firing better than a high dollar Python. I had a 4 incher for a while back in the eighties but I sold it during one of the minor domestic crises that come with parenthood.

Real sleepers, the Lawman and Trooper on the "J-frame". Simple, tough action/lockwork, overbuilt frame and cylinder. I had 4" and 6" Troopers I should have kept.

I looked at a Lawman Mark III 4" nickel that is as new in the box this past weekend, Beautiful gun, first nickel I've ever seen. I'm not a fan of nickel but this one could do it for me. I have a 2" blue Lawman MK III and a 4" trooper MK III. Great guns.

I assume it's the 2" barrel since the owner called it a 'snub-nose.' He also has a S&W .38 but wasn't able to say which model.

I carried a Mk III 6" .357 Mag. daily for several years. A very substantial, strong revolver, a bit heavy. Somehow I can't imagine one as a snubby. Too bulky and heavy, and more difficult to conceal than a Colt Detective Special or Smith & Wesson Chief's Special. But..different strokes...as they say.

The 2" lawman snub nose brings a premium over the 4" gun. I have an early blued Lawman snub. For my needs, too heavy to carry but I use it to fire a .357 out of a 2" barrel so as to see a ball of flame. It actually is controllable.

That was my thought. I have the cash, I doubt I'll regret buying them as much as I'd regret passing on them.

I had 4" and 6" Troopers I should have kept.During my early days as a peace officer a buddy of mine carried his personal 4" Colt Trooper as his duty weapon. It was a beautiful royal blue and had nice target grips. He was proud of that gun and knew how to use it.

Back in the day quite a few men in my dept. carried Trooper Mk III with 4" barrel and blued. I still have mine and can`t think that high the amount of rounds put thru it with no break downs.Robert
