Any 35-/30-30 shooters out there?

This wildcatted .30-30 also goes by the designation, 35-30.

I first got interested in it through Frank Barnes' book, Cartridges of the World, then read the excellent Ed Harris article at his website.

The cartridge appeals to me for several reasons: (1) rimmed case would seem more sensible than the .35 Remington, which I have been loading with cast bullets with pleasing results; and (2) .38 handgun bullets do well for me in the .35 Remington and I'm going to guess they would also work nicely in the .35-30/30.

Hoping there are a couple of casters around this site who wish to share their experiences with this uncommon wildcat. If so, please tell me about your rifle, where you had the conversion done, how much it cost, etc.

I'm not sure what rifle I'd pick if I did undertake this conversion - possibly a bolt action. Any reason why it wouldn't work with a Savage 340 if pressures were kept down? (I'm not interested in the hotrod versions.) Other rifle suggestions are welcome - repeater or single-shot.

Bolt rifleor single shot will work fine. Mine has a 16" twist and stabilizes Accurate 36-245D subsonic with 8 grains of Bullseye. I get better accuracy slowing heavy bullet sown than using pistol bullets. Use 30 grains of 4895, 4064, RL15 or Varget for hunting.

With 200-grain bullets, yes, at least close enough.
