Called Armalite about buying a bolt head (ala Savage type) for my Armalite AR30. Figure just replacing the bolt head like you can do on a Savage and rechambering to 300wm or 300 wsm. Told that they do not sell the parts and rechambering the rifle would be "dangerous"!!! As if it didn't origionally come in 300 wm!!

That's their standard liability answer since they have no idea of your skill level or knowledge levels. (not saying you arnt qualified but that they don't know) They have to cover themselves.

Must be a AR30 policy. I purchase lots of AR15 & AR10 parts from them. Other option is you got the village idiot.

they come in 308/30-06 and 300 win mag.
a simple magazine change [or block removal] should be all that's necessary.
the WM would be slightly more involved.
just looking at mine in 308 it seems you could just re-Barrel to 30-06 and move along.

Have licensed gunsmith contact them. They will sell one to him. If not I know people that work there and maybe be able to get one through them. They are always building something weird. I just helped another friend a few months ago sight in his 338 Lapua one. And he gave me all the brass. I think I gave that to Brassmagnet. Can't remember my memory has been fuzzy lately.

Finding a licensed gunsmith around here now is easier said than done. Think I have a spare magnum bolt head for my Savage, will pull the AR bolt apart and see how it compares. Be nice if I could have a barrel nut made and treat it like a Savage. Make a good switch barrel gun. Might have to "bite the bullet" and see how my old skills are and make one myself.
Heck, might turn it into a 6.5 Creedmoor. Might leave it alone, it still shoots great for the thousands of rounds I have down the tube. It really likes the 155 amax.
