need some insight recently acquired quantity of 452 aa , have checked many powder tables about this discontinued powdr . would like to use up if can ( gotta save those pennies for new swage equip got the reload fever bad probably terminal ) . Hope to feed new 223 Axis as well have noticed in lyman cast info that red dot recipes are accepted. Could I judiciously use 452 in my 223 as alternate to red dot they are very close on burn tables. Not concerned with case life have several 5 gal pails of 1 fired brass .

452AA was a 12 ga target powder that was loaded in the 19-21gr range for 1 1/8 oz target loads with plastic wads. If I had a bunch of it and wanted to use it in a .223 I think that creeping up on Red Dot data would be prudent IMHO.

I shot lots of 452AA in .45 ACP with H&G#68 200-grain SWC @ 4.5 grains for 830 fps.

You can use Bullseye data by weight in .38 and .45 wadcutter for a close match with factory ammo
Use 7-8 grains in the .30-'06 with 150-170-grain cast plainbase for subsonic gallery load. In the .223 I would not go above 4-5 grains as a small game load, as it gets "peaky" as you approach max.

452 made a name for itself used in 12 ga. trap loads and the .45 auto.

Some years ago I was given two pounds of 452AA. It was the best powder I've used for making accurate .45 ACP loads.

it's my first choice for plinker loads in 308 & 30-30.... Think under 1100 FPS and a 130 boolet... Haven't seen any for years...

I like 4.5grn's in my 30-30 fun plinker load. Also great in the .45 acp. keep looking on the net there is some info for pistol loads, do an advanced search here and you'll fine lots of info. In fact I found this great forum looking for 452aa loads :p

I also used lots of 452AA for both shotshells and cast bullets in handgun cartridges.

For those that don't know 452AA was renamed as Winchester Super Target (WST) and I still go through jugs of it for target shotshell loads and cast bullet handgun loads. Same great powder as always.

As a guy that has both powders I can assure you WST and 452AA are not at all the same powder. Winchester/Olin did not rename it.
