I will confess that I stole this from a guy on Youtube (NorthernInventor I think). At any rate it gave me an opportunity to practice on my new Sherline lathe. Some turning and facing work. Took a rod of tool steel and turned it down to fit loosely inside of 24 gauge shotshell brass. I turned the other side down to 1/4" to serve as a pilot for a 3/4" counterbore. When I chuck the counterbore and pilot into the lathe I just push the already shortened case onto the pilot until it stops. Perfect case length every time. Works like a charm. I feel quite accomplished.

Nice!

It's much more "empowering" to be a Manufacturer than a mere Consumer. Having that lathe and knowing how to use it definitely moves you into the first category. ;)

For cutting the cases down, I just chuck the case in the lathe and cut the end of the case off with a thin parting tool, quick and clean.

I guess Lee doesn't make their little tool for the 577? They used to make one for the 577/450, but stopped.

I made a plywood jig and a little dremel circular type craft saw to cut the magtech to length. I then just clean up the edge with a fine sand paper on a flat surface in a figure eight pattern for a few swipes. Good to go after that.

Make a Wison type case holder that you can use in the lathe to part off the brass and keep your chuck jaws off of the brass.
You can also use rhat case holder with a Wilson .50 caliber trimmer.

You can also use that case holder with a Wilson .50 caliber trimmer which will trim up to .605 diameter.
