One of the most influential military men of our time died today. We Were Soldiers Once and Young became a best selling book and a movie about Vietnam without all of the political BS of a dick head like Oliver Stone. Hal More rewrote the training manuals, was a hero to men like Schwarzkopf and McCrystal. Hal Moore was one hell of a soldier. As an instructor at West Point, Moore made Four Stars out of 2nd LTs. If you have never read his book about returning to Vietnam or his book about his spiritual journey through life, you should, it is quite a window into a real leader and his method of leading men, warriors.

Many gave all
All gave some
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

For our tomorrow
They gave their today

Rest in peace you earned it

When they printed the piece on line they left out the date of death and only had the byline date of the 13th. General Moore actually passed on Friday the 10th, just to clarify.

The good ones from the Viet Nam era were definitely some of our best, and some of our brightest shining stars. They labored under impossible odds and circumstances, and that's just from the idiocy on OUR side! God grant this good man total rest and satisfaction, for he truly did his job well, even when it was so very difficult to do that. God rest his soul, and bring him peace at long last.

I was told yesterday by another friend, this man was responsible for the rescue of a friend of mine in Vietnam, after his leg was blown off. A man who was worth saving, who unfortunately has also passed on.
