Found this in an email, and thought I'd pass it on. I think it kind'a explains why kids aren't being taught HOW to think, and are being taught WHAT to think in many locales now. It's the difference in real education and indoctrination, and the more authoritative state becomes, the more indoctrination becomes the standard, rather than real education and edification. Here's the quote:
“Logic is one of philosophy’s main instruments. Logic is to philosophy what telescopes are to astronomy or microscopes to biology or math to physics. You can’t be very good at physics if you’re very bad at math, and you can’t be very good at philosophy if you’re very bad at logic.”
