I can't point you to a thread, but I can make an atempt at explaining the process.
Firelapping is done by embeding lapping compound into the bearing surfaces of a boolit, then loading, then fireing, to smooth the imperfections of a rough bore.

Embedding compound is done by rolling boolits back and forth between two steel plates with the compound lightly smeared on them. A small dab is all you need. Care must be taken not to apply too much preasure. You can turn a .30 cal. into a very long .22 with enough vigor.

My kit is a Wheeler from Midway. Cost me around $8 a few years back. Consists of 2 steel plates, three bottles of compound, one each of 220, 320, and 600 grit . I don't have much use for the 220 as I just think it's too course for what I need it to do.

Start out with 10 shots of each grit that you intend to use. I've heard tell of up to 70 shots, allthough I have never gone beyond 40 or so to get the results that I wanted. Hope this helps you out.
