Can someone give me an idea of the age of this RCBS mould? It's the 148 gr .358 wadcutter. Handles slide on the metal shaft.

I picked it up on eBay, probably paid a bit too much but for some reason this mold seemed to talk to me. It showed up today and the smell reminded me of the blacksmith/machine shop my Grandpa used to take me to. I sold a couple of fishing rods to fund this purchase. I think I got the better end of the deal :p

I cleaned her up, gave her a bit of lube, got her hot and proceeded to have some fun. This mold closes like a vault door. What a piece of equipment.

Yeah! Looks like a Lyman from '70's to '90's. I doubt a RCBS mould would fit those handles.

It's marked RCBS. I'll get pics tomorrow or Saturday.

absolutely an RCBS mold they are the only ones, currently, using that style sprue plate.

I do believe closer examination will reveal some one milled the Lyman handles down to fit

There is a very slight bevel.

I made up many thousands of this mold (mine had a flat bottom. I sized to .358", lubed half the grooves and loaded my .38 spcl case with 3.3 Gr. of either HP-38 or Win. 231 for a nice shooting target load. I used many alloys casting this boolet, but settled on a 50/50 alloy mix.Robert

Do the handles attach with a allen screw and internal pin or an allen with an integral pin? Older molds had a separate pin.

From what I remember from looking at it yesterday the handles are pinned on.

Yes is the pin separate or attached to the screw?

I forgot about the pin and set screw
I love dropping one of them on the floor and having it bounce in the tiny little crack between the lead pile and the bench leg.

been a while since I used one of my rcbs molds or put one on a set of handles.

I never seen one pinned in place though.

Here's some more pictures. I only noticed in the one picture that it appears there's a allen screw in the one side of the handle.

Lyman handles?

A few years ago I saw a RCBS and a Lachmiller molds both attached to Lyman handles at a gun show. As I began to examine the RCBS mold the vendor offered to drop the price to 100!! I immediately put it down and walked away.
