Hi guys, does anyone have a Uberti high wall, if so how well made and how accurate are they?

I am considering getting one in 40-65.

I have read, that their barrels are not very good, it that true? And it pays to put a green mountain barrel on them, that however would make them a very expensive rifle! Its a shame you cant just buy the action.

Also is the DST pistol grip model worth the extra $250?
Thanks

An acquaintance of mine just picked up one in 45-70 and it shot very well with a variety of of bullets 300 grains and down. He's pushing them pretty hard though I don't have details at my fingertips. He hasn't tried anything heavier as of yet, focusing on the Hornady Flex-tip, nothing with cast so far.

I've got one that I shoot/shot in BPCR competitions a few years ago. Love it! But, it was gifted to me by my dad and he installed a 34" Badger barrel on it. It shoots good now...

I have the Uberti HiWall in .40 65, it is a well made copy of the original, but the barrel twist was 1/20", so I rebarreled it to 1/16". I also installed the DST with a pistol grip. I find the extra clearance from the DST lever to be a problem when trying to form a good grip on the stock, I am planning to reinstall the single trigger.

Well made guns, but accuracy is great on some, and not as good on some. Inconsistency is a reason we see so many rebarreled with better barrels. Might consider finding a cheap used one and have the barrel you like installed on it.

Get a Pedersoli High wall.
It IS a Uberti receiver but Pedersoli barrels them with their own good barrels. Not sure where the woods comes from.

I have a HW in 38-55 and I am happy with it. No issues at all with the barrel or accuracy. Same with LW in 32-20 WCF.

Another Uberti HW in .38-55 here. I confess that I have not shot it a whole lot. But the 50 rounds I've put through it doing some load testing with new brass look promising. More testing is being held off by a lack of consistent bullet supply of one type and size. But that is solved now. Just waiting for some nicer weather.

I have a Uberti Hiwall and I had it re-barrelled. It came with a 1/22 inche twist barrel which did fine with 500grain boolits out to 500 meters, but from 500 meters on it was inconsistant, and the further you got past 500 meters, the more inconsistant the groups got. Put on a 18 twist Green Mountain barrel and it is good to 1000 meters. Cannot help on the pistol grip.
