I found a Kimber 82 Government at a gun show this weekend in excellent shape. I made it to the range today and fired some groups from bags with it.
I think I have a shooter here.
I tried 5 different kinds of ammo for it. 2 of them shot really well. One a bit better than the other.
The one the rifle likes best is Norma Match 22. I was getting .6 inch groups at 50 yards. I tried a few groups at 100 yards and was getting 1.2 inch groups.
I had a nice day today. Warm with no wind on the range.
I will need to get hold of some other brands of match ammo and see if anything works better, but at least I have one brand that shoots well.

I got a "new in box" one from the CMP several years ago, I think I paid $600 for it then. It's also a really good shooter. Definitely one of my favorite 22's that I own. It likes CCI Standard Velocity.

Mine is also from the cmp. was "new" and unfired as far as I could tell. Its a great shooter. It really liked the federal Match the one with the dimple in the case head but that's been discontinued. Lapua and RWS match do well in it also.

There are copies of the manual for the version of this rifle that Kimber sold retail, below is a link to one of them. You can also just do a search for "Kimber Model 82 Government Manual and find it.

The commercial version manual even has the procedure to lighten the trigger pull.

I have two, one I have an old Redfield 6-18 mounted on and one I use with the original sights. I got them directly from CMP for $400 each. They were "rusty". The bore was pristine and the rust I rubbed off with a little oil on my finger.

:bigsmyl2:I have a Kimber .22 Hunter. I traded a guy at work an old Bennelli Nova pump gun and $100 for it!
Talk about a sweet shooting rifle. It likes most ammo. I have always longed for a nice bolt gun in .22LR
and I finally came across one for a smoking deal.
