Seen a 357mag/9mm black hawk in a shop. $579 with a label saying 'rare', which seemed odd since Ruger still shows them being made and readily available on line. I paid a bit less than that, want to say $499 with the ACP cyl never used, for a 45colt/45ACP gun a while back. The shop got taken over by the son not so long ago, and seems the deals are not as easy to find anymore.

"Rare" is what they put on something with a high price. If it is more than 5 years old, they also put "vintage" on it. It is all sucker bait.

Definitely not rare. But they sure are fun, and pleasantly surprisingly accurate.

Maybe it's the old, original model without the transfer bar.

I have had several convertibles and the 357/9mm version is not rare by any stretch.

Not rare really. I bought a new one less than 2 years ago. I just checked the Ruger website and it is still listed as available. As was mentioned, if it is an old 3-screw model it would likely bring more money.

Things have changed a bit since the dad retired. Some good, some not so much. The old guy was always really fair. If he had something a while and you were interested he would cut a deal to move it. Son won't, $10 off for cash on the spot really isn't much for a used gun that's been there for better than a year. Still cheaper than pretty much any gun store I have been in.

Actually if it was an OM,, WITHOUT the prefix serial number,,,it is a rarer VERSION of that model. Then,, if it's an OM,, it's worth a bit more than the NM in my book. Lastly,, if it's a NM of most flavors,,, still available.

I would ask what your cost is if he ordered you a new one and proceed accordingly.

I was just curious, not something I plan to buy. I have 2 357 mags, full size and snub. Already owned a 357 blackhawk, no need for another 9mm. Just seemed a bit hopeful to say it was 'rare'.
