What do you mean you are missing the good stuff! Take your pick. The fired bullets would be a little dirtier than the unfired and not telling how hard the bars and solid pieces are. But I could work with any of that.

Why dose the recycler have so many bullets?
Well gave that a lot of thought...... It would seem one of us went to the happy hunting ground. And someone took his pride and joy dumped it in five gallon buckets and got fifty cents a pound. It's kinda sad digging through all the lee Lyman ingots hundreds tens of thousands of cast bullets. A lifetime of a joy filled hobby just dumped.

#3-4-6 is where I would start. Although 4 & 6 looks like a bunch of cast bullets with no ozxidation and should br a good place to start. The lead oxide on #3 will melt down as well. Still have a 5 gallon bucket from the pistol range berm from the old range. Frank

Good evening, the answer to how much? Is...1) all you can afford. 2) Take your age X lbs/year you will shoot=lbs needed.
Back in the day, I thought lead would be everywhere, always. A friend was a roofer and I got pick-up loads of roof jacks. Another was a plumbers helper and lead pipe and solder was mine for the taking. Tire shops gave all the used WW(all lead...never a zinc or steel) you could carry to their tire customers. I had a pile of ingots and other lead all set aside. Enough for my life and probably another.(about 10,000lbs) The building burnt and the puddle was to heavy for a bobcat to dig up and move they used a track hoe to put it in the bin with all the other metal scrap. Moral of the story.....don't store stuff in the other half of a fuel shed or all in one place!! 16 years later, I have managed to replace/stock pile 1800lbs or (300lbs/yr=6 years) but total work and nothing for free anymore!!

or you could just have 20 buckets of sorted ww's just disappear from the back of the old pickup one night.

Dadswickedammo,

This is in Cali ?

I didn't think lead was legal in cali anymore

So, did you buy any?
If that were in MN, and the price was 60¢ or less, I'd buy all I could afford/haul...starting with the Lee/Lyman ingots, then the unfired boolits.

you know them boolits will make good boolits again.

Many of the Guys here have a lifetime supply, or close to one, and still collect it. It's getting harder to find and probably will continue to do so. The general consensus is to get it while you can. It does seem a shame that some old caster went to the happy hunting grounds and his family sold his stuff at the scrap yard rather than another caster having a chance at it. I have requested that my family attempt to let my friends have a shot at my stash when I'm gone.

There are are lots of small scrap yards, even in the SF/ Bay Area that will sell anything. Cash is still king. The large conglomerate companies will not sell anything to the public.

I also live in the People's Republic of Kalifornia and finding a relatively cheap source of metal proved to be quite a challenge. I have been calling a couple of recycling yards here at East Bay (I live in Concord, CA) and they are asking more than $1,25 per pound. At those prices it's cheaper and a LOT more convenient to buy here at the forum... so if anyone could share a cheaper source I'll be more than grateful :D

If I lived in CA, I'd be posting ads offering to recycle and dispose of scrap lead, on the grocery store bulletin boards. If those exist anymore. The press will be talking this up soon.

Wow, what a great score. I am happy to grab a 5g bucket here and there... I am trying to find enough to make a 2,000# pile

Do you think them bullets just need a sizing? And shoot.

I would be envious if I was not at or close to that "lifetime supply". The yards around here won't sell to the public. Heck, they won't even let you look around when you are there selling scrap! You're making some good scores! I am envious of the solder you are finding!
