Value of Marlin Model 444

I'm interested to know the value of a Marlin Model 444 in .444 Marlin caliber. Have not seen it yet, but is reported to be in good condition and from the mid-1970's. Will get the serial number and try to date it. Could this one be pre-microgroove or does that not apply to the 444's? Would only be interested in it if I thought it would be a good CB shooter. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I doubt the mid 70's 444's had Ballard rifling but about $600 is the going rate for those.

mines a 69 and it is micro groove.

Don't remember the year of the one I had but it was also a micro groove.

444 was introduced in 1968 with a microgroove barrel. They went to Ballard in 2007. I believe the cowboy models were in Ballard throughout the years but don't quote me on that.

Not really............ The .444 was introduced in 1965.

I bought my 1st .444 (new/used) in 1966 for a little less than $100.

IIRC, Woolco was selling new ones for $109 at the time - those were the days (sigh).

The one I have is 1-38" twist with the micro-groove barrel. It shot cast in the 200 rf lee version up to a 260-ish semi-wadcutter at 100 yards with under 3" grouping. At 50 yards was almost too good to believe. The guys with the faster twists of 1-20 or so got great accuracy with the longer slugs I believe. My shoulder didn't like the heavier slugs much!
