View Full Version : Thought I'd introduce myself

Well, I thought I'd introduce myself here, since I don't see a specific place for them.

I will say, I don't plan on asking any questions for quite some time. I'm currently on page 33 of "from ingot to target" that's in the stickies. That one document will surely guide me through casting for my 454 casull.

On to the intro!

I'm Neal Wilkinson, copier repair is the name of my game. I'm 26, been happily married for 2.5 years, no little runts.yet.

Currently I load 6.5 Creedmoor for prs/ benchrest type stuff, but it will take game next season. I have the gear to load 40 s&w, 9x19, 223, 45 colt and 454 casull.

In the coming months I will acquire a Taurus raging judge magnum in 6.5 inch barrel, that I plan on eventually casting for. Just waiting on Taurus to make one! My local place just put in an order with Taurus at shot, and it's already paid for... needless to say, I'm so freaking excited to get it!

Any who, that's me!

Neal glad that you are aboard. Looks like you are off to a great start with the Fryxell book. There are many great reloading and casting books out there and I still collect and use them all. You Cast Boolits family will be there for you when you need them.....Paul

Welcome Aboard! Feel free to ask questions. No one knows it all and there are no dumb questions. The Guys here are very knowledgeable and very few of them will bite your head off.

Start looking for sources of scrap lead now. There are lots of threads about lead scores to give you ideas. Also consider a smelting set-up and be looking for pots, burners, ect.

I have a pretty good relationship with the two tire places in town, and even the semi truck place, which I hear is a good source for more of a "pure lead".

Wish I could find free linotype now... I'll probably just anneal my ww lead for my 454. The book recommends a bh of 18 and up for the 454 and iirc, ww is around 15.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy. Take a photo of your loading area now then again in two years and compare the difference. It's amazing how much accumulating that will happen. Great hobby with a great family here to lend you a hand - Jeepyj

nhyrum,
Welcome to the forum.
Don't be afraid to ask questions at any point in time.
It is surely wise to dig into a book like you have, in order to gain the technical vocabulary to ask better questions...but again, we welcome any questions at any level.

A large portion of questions pondered by new members are usually about the many acronyms we use here (that are exclusive to this hobby). This sticky will surely help you out.

Welcome from Canada. I started casting a few years ago now and still have a ton of things to learn or try. Its a very interesting endeavour. Read the powder coating forums also. I think that's the future of lubing cast boolits.
