Hi Folks,

My cleaning rod muzzle guide has gone missing, so I decided to make another. I've often read that the cap from a glue bottle can be made to work, but I've usually found them to be kind of sticky (pun intended :-) ). But looking around I spied a 30-06 case, grabbed a tubing cutter and cut off the top inch, and voilą, as nice a muzzle protector as I could ask for. The price was good too.

This one is for 44 Magnum revolvers. It works well too!

Take care, Tom

I have a lathe and make my own from brass rod but that is a good solution.
Good job!

I use homemade rod guides too, but on the other end of the weapon. For odd rifles like the Lee Enfields and Krags that don't see a lot of rod guide designs, I cut off the front end of a case and then drill the primer pocket out for the cleaning rod. It's an excellent way to protect the throat of the barrel.

An interesting rod guide for the Mosin-Nagant is to use a 20 gauge shell with the primer pocket drilled out for the rod. Works a treat. Thanks to LMG for that tip.

for larger holes, a faucet washer works great

I have been using a piece of 1/2" CPVC plastic pipe cut longer than the action. Not really a guide, but keeps junk out of the action.
