Not really much of an 1895 fan but got a good deal on an old flatside a few years back and was very intrigued by the rifle and the 30-40 Krag cartridge. Unfortunately this flatside isn't much of a shooter, at least not with CB's. Bore is pretty rough. Problem is I'd invested in brass, dies and a mould. :( Naturally, when a decent 1895 (about 20 years newer and with a better bore) presented itself at the WACA show in Cody last year I had to buy it, right?
I loaded up some NOE 312299's and 311041's over starting loads of IMR4227 earlier today. New shooting glasses should help me see the tiny sights but I'm not sure. If the weather clears I'm off to the range in the morning to find out!

I think you already know that I fancy the Model '95. Not sure I could resist a nice deluxe '95 in 35 Winchester.
Get yourself a "climbin' Lyman" sight for it.

Pics if your of a mind.

I like the Lyman sight but I don't think the receiver is D&T'd for one. Someone finally bought the TD in 35 Winchester, would have been nice but it was overpriced and more than I wanted to spend. Not a good day for pics but may have some, will see.

One hole needs to be drilled and tapped for the Lyman copy sight that BECO sells.

If that flat side has a bore anything like mine(30US), cast is not your friend, I slugged my bore and it popped out at .3103, of course that was after I used up a batch of .308s with mediocre results. I ended up using some of my 303 brass and bullets just to see what would turn up and now have a really good shooter. I did an extensive bore scrub and then treated the bore and the first couple of batches of bullets with some moly to see if the pits would be a bit more forgiving. musta worked, copper fouling seems to be minimal and manageable ...

Have you thought about putting a new barrel on it? It is kinda pricy and not for cash strapped but Turnbull in New York put a new barrel on my 1895

Have the barrel relined. I've heard that John Taylor can do it and make the liner not show.

See if JES can do a rebore job to 375 and should be a lot of fun with cast bullets. think they call it the 375 Krag. I have a saddle ring carbine that I bought years ago in 30-40 krag. Not a pristine example as bubba has had his way with her . Frank

Slug the bore. My 95 in 30-03 wouldn't shoot worth a hoot so I slugged the bore and it was .304 x .312. With bullets for the 303 British it shoots good.
