I picked up some linotype yesterday and the shop owner asked if I was interested in any foundry type. I was not sure what it was, so I did not show much interest. He gave me a small can with some in it and told me to see if it was something I could use. How is this different from linotype? I did a search here and on Google but did not really find the info I was looking for.

Thanks

Foundry type metal is about 64.5% Pb (lead), 23% Sb(Antimony) & 12.5% Sn(Tin). Considered too hard for bullet casting but wonderful to use for blending to make the family of alloys other than for black powder. Can always make alloys by using higher metal alloys and blending down, difficult to add to build up an alloy. Nice find, purchase at a decent cost and enjoy.

Thanks for the replies. I did not ask the price but I will get back with him before long and see. I have a lot of SOWW lead on hand and that is primarily why I wanted the linotype. I will read the information referred to above and see what will suit best. How much should linotype bring, compared to foundry type?

it's kind of all over as far as price. 1.60-2.00
foundry type was used to bring depleted lino-type back to it's 4/12/84 standard.
