I have recently melted down 4 five gallon pails of wheel weights. Most of these were the standard clip on type, but I also found a bunch of stick ons, some up to 6: long. Melted those down and got 20 ingots. Question is, are these softer than clip ons? Are they pure? I use a 50-50 mix of pure [roofing lead] and cow for my hunting bullets. Are the stick ons close to the roofing lead? Any help appreciated, thanks, Craig

Yes, the SOWW are close to roofing lead in purity.

Depends. If you separate the painted gray stick ons you will have almost pure lead. If you leave them in it will be harder and not close to pure. It makes a big difference. Ingots without the painted one's are cratered in the center. Ingots with the painted one's have no crater. Craters come from pure or very close to pure lead

I've been told the makeup of all wheelvweights are inconsistent. Perhaps someone can validate.

I wouldn't say they are inconsistent, but I suppose it would depend on how you define inconsistent.

they ain't what they used to be.
I just mix them in with the clip-on's at about 3/4-1 and not worry about them like I used to.
