This is a heads up to anyone who sees an ad like this, it is a scam. This one is using Amazon Payments as their "trusted escrow" to buy this fabulous rifle, but Amazon doesn't sell firearms or vehicles.. Nice rifle! Nice SOB story!

You can tell Engrish is not their first language, and the US is obviously not their country of residence. I am guessing once you send them the information they requested, they will send you a faked Amazon login page, which will enable them to send you an invoice for this FINE 1944 Springfield M1 garand rifle!!!!!!

Message body Hello Doug,

I'm emailing you about my M1 Garand rifle that I have for sale. The rifle is in great shape, has a 30-06 caliber, S/n date is January 1944, comes with 27 clips, bayonet, ammo, shoulder strap, and booklet. Everything works, has no problems, damages, scratches or hidden defects. The price was reduced at $500.00 because I own the rifle from my husband who unfortunately can't enjoy it anymore as he died 3 months ago and I want to get rid of it asap because the sight of it makes me think of him often and the pain is too big. I also moved to another city with my 2 kids and other things have priority right now so this rifle has to go.

The rifle is in Amazon Payments custody at their shipping company in Springfield, MO. The transaction will be managed by Amazon Payments for our own protection since I don't have the time to handle the transaction on my own (with my 2 kids plus work). Also they collaborate with a FFL Dealer and they will act as a neutral third part, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period (starting from the moment when you get it) before committing to buy the rifle. If the rifle is not in same condition as I said, you will ship it back on my expense and Amazon will send you a full refund. But I assure you won't be the case.

The shipping is free because I supposed to ship the rifle to another buyer, then he told me that he doesn't have money to pay for it, but he already paid the shipping charges.

If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your name, the FFL name and shipping address where you want the rifle to be shipped, to open a case with Amazon Payments and they will send you the invoice as soon as possible with all the details about the transaction and payment method without the obligation to buy.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Elaine

A call to Amazon Customer Service verifies that this is indeed a scam, and they sent some links to report this to the FBI...

Had an uncle who just about fell for that but it was a car and they used eBay. Fortunately I intervened and called him a bone head. What else are nephews for?

About two years ago Elaine Porter had a scam for a high end O/U on one of the action sites. I remember the name since I have a friend with the same name.

Awesome grammar.

I didnt pay much attention in English, however, the grammar is so horrid, it screams scam from that alone.

that was really fun to read. is there a way all the bright minds that read castboolits can come up with that we could scam the scammer? it would be fun.

The poor grammar makes her seem more genuine. Hope they nail her/him/them.

I have seen far worse grammar right here from our own CB members.
