Any info on these TC Scout Pistols is greatly appreciated! I understand they made them in .50 and .54, I just picked up a .50 in like new condition. Load Data? What is the going Value of these? Again any info is appreciated

never owned one but, I've read that with that long breechplug assembly that ignition can be tricky/difficult.

I wish this was a 54 instead of 50, Maybe I'll run across a 54 barrel one of these days? They sure look and feel like a solid built pistol

I had one in 50.
I loaded it with BP and RB just shy of Rifle loads...I'm thinkin' 60 or 65 gr.
they are fun to shoot. I don't recall ever having an issue with the long breechplug/nipple, I think I have a spare in my possibles bag, that I forgot to give the guy who bought my pistol...maybe have the wrench too...maybe I have the TC manual also?

I have the Scout rifle in 54. If the pistol is anything like the rifle, the nipple is part of the breech plug so you have to get the whole assy. to replace the nipple. I have never had an ignition problem with mine. Seems to shoot well but I haven't shot it but twice and that was at 25y. They may still have the manual online to download.

I have a 54 rifle. Ignition if just fine with #11 caps and Holy Black 3f or 777 2f. It might be a good idea to look for a spare nipple assembly. The nipple/breech plug assembly is a goofy looking thing and it is vented through the side of the action, kind of like a hot shot nipple. It was designed to enhance ignition reliability before the adoption of 209 caps. It seems to work well.

This is it, TOTW carries them, a bit spendy at 18.99 a piece. I will definitely get a couple to have on hand, i doubt i will shoot this all that much? I only shoot real blackpowder, no substitutes for me. Another bonus of living 30 minutes from Buffalo Arms, i can get any real black i want, and any amount of it. I have Swiss 2 and 3F on hand

If I ever got to where I needed a new one, I'd probably cutoff thenipple part and drilland tap for a regular nipple.

I could swear I have the manual in PDF format but can not find it.

Ha . . .

Leave it to Good Ol Steve

TC used to list the Scout manual on the web site, but now it is not there, I did keep searching.

Depending on the condition of your 50 cal barrel, I may have a "new" 54.

I will look tomorrow.

If you have never visited Steve's pages, then you are missing a treasure trove of shooting/gun information on many subjects

This pistol is built like a RUSSIAN TANK! I shot it yesterday just to say i did, 80 Grains of Swiss 2F and a 200 Grain Hornady XTP in a Sabot, i exploded a milk jug full of water at 20-25 yards. I am extremely impressed with this Pistol, TC did an awesome job on it!! I have always felt that Ruger builds one of, if not the strongest Revolvers on the planet. I have owned a couple TC Contenders as well, a really old one with a .30-30 barrel, and a lot newer version Called an Encore that i put a .500 S&W barrel, the Contenders/Encore were built very well, But in my honest opinion this Pistol has all of them beat! I was worried about it being a nuisance to take apart and clean, I can happily say it is a pleasure to take apart! I can have this pistol disassembled and Ready to clean in 1 minute LITERALLY. Very happy with it!!

Yes, I had the same experience that you are relaying. The big draw-back for me was how nose heavy the gun is, and with the two frame ports blasting out hot gasses, there isn't a prudent way of holding anything forward of the trigger.

Load it with some paper patched 500 S&W bullets.

Load it with some paper patched 500 S&W bullets.

I was think of trying that with mine in 54 rifle, different bullet of coarse. It has a 1-20 twist but shallow rifling. Not necessarily a bad thing but I don't have any others with shallow rifling like that and have never played with them. I wish mine was like the later ones they made with 1-38 rifling, I think they changed them for the better, but that's just an educated guess.

Im not sure I'd wanna go 90 Grains of Swiss 3F? Swiss powder is very noticeably warmer than Goex, The load data i see from the online TC manual only calls for 2F, up to 110 Grains of it

I have a 50 & a 54 in a rifle, the long flame channel in the nipple/ breach plug needs to be kept clean, after a number of shots, I run a torch tip cleaner through back & forth keeps the rifle shooting. Happy Trails

I am VERY familiar with the 'Long flame Channel' :-D i pulled a cheap press fitted brush off in this channel! I got REALLY lucky and was able to retrieve it. I have the correct stuff for getting in there and cleaning it now. I know nothing about a torch tip cleaner? How are you getting in there with it? Attached to a cleaning rod?

AT the range I just run it back & forth on the nipple end the torch wire has serrations & keeps it running through the shooting sessions. any welding supply should have them.

Mine only shot round balls really well. That doesn't mean a short bullet wouldn't work as well.

They like real BP. Got un-fun hang fires with 777. :-(
