I have a couple Spanish mausers 1 for many years and 1 newer find. First one is a 1891 modelo Argentino but in 7x57. Took me a # of years to get around to shooting it, just wasn't sure of the caliber. It was before it time of Internet so info was though to come up with. The guy I got it from gave me a partial of 7x57 but guys at gun shows said that wasn't right. Years later I finally came up with the right ammo and headed to the range. Wouldn't chamber round....good for sure but lucky it was to big. Got up the nerve to do a chamber cast and low and behold 7mm. She had been sporterized so guess maybe someone could have rebarreled than but bluing all looks great and barrel receiver match nicely. Didn't take me long before I found out I really liked this round. Being young and with and family couldn't spend money on ammo.
Now years later kids grown can play more. Bought a oviedo mauser m93 from 1911 with all wood...something I've always wanted. Always thought about redressing the argentino but... Bought some surplus ammo from samco years ago but it was mixed and some not very reliable. Have a few boxes of ammo I've been saving for years that's supposed to be boxer primed. Now it's time to start loading for these old gals. See i can find 7x57 ppu brass at grafs but can walk into sportsman's wherehouse and get hornady 275 rigby. Guess I'll keep looking and shot what I have.....get and set of dies and get to loading.

I have two 7x57 Mauser one a 93 the other a 95. A great old round and will be around for many years. Why buy brass you can make it from 30-06 270 25-06 . I like 270 brass common to find at a good price. Just really size down and trim.

The 7x57 makes an excellent cast boolit shooter. My rifle is an FN military Mauser

Lethemgo,

I am not surprised the M1891 was redone to 7X57MM. Whenever I come across a "Sporter", I check real close. My favorite cast boolit in my many 7x57s is the Lyman #287308 , 168 grain RN sized .285". The same boolit is excellent in my 7MM Remington Magnum for practice rounds.

Interesting senero, I was at an auction. The auctioneer held up a cz 22 RF. I bid $125 on it and won it. When I went to pick it up, it turned out to be a Carbine 7x57, FN Mauser, 19" bbl, all matching serial numbers, made for Venezuelan Police as it had no bayonet lug on it, only 39,000 made. Since it was made inbetween wars, and the bore is pristine, it is good to go in as far as being strong. The barrel was chambered with a short throat, I an easily touch the lands with a 140g bullet with plenty of room left in the magazine.

In addition, someone had the bolt professionally bent and the action drilled and tapped for a scope mounts!

So, I found some PPI brass, worked up a load with an old Pentax 3x9 scope that barely clears the rear sights, and I did a trigger job on it at 3 lbs.

Holy Cow, this little rifle is a shooter! 40g of R#15 with a cci 200, 140g Nosler ballistic tip seated .005 off the lands shoots 1" at 100 and 2" at 200...I am amazed!

The rifle is not bedded either!!!

I may have to look into some cast bullets as this barrel is slick with no pitts at all. I think that the rifle has lived it's life in a crate because the only rust on the gun looks like it is from a rack.
