With "Revo Fever" in full swing and an insatiable lust for competitive shooting, this one was a natural choice to bring home! Say hello to my 929 Performance Center, Jerry Miculek signature series!
It sports a 6.5" barrel, button rifled, with a removable compensator. Forged guts, 8 shot titanium cylinder, moon clip only. Teardrop'ed hammer, both it and the trigger are hard chromed. Can't wait to drop some rounds into it and make'er bark! Ill be added the JM wood grip stocks, fiber optic front sight, Hogue or SDM cylinder release, Cylinder & Slide lengthened firing pin, and a spring kit. Also be setting up another competition belt with all the trimmings, extra moon clips, moon loader/demooner, etc. Its gonna be fun!

I need that too. That goes to the short list. Probably top of the list.

I try to shoot mine DAO only. In that mode mine runs handloads reliably only with federal small pistol primers.

I've held the non performance center model and really liked it. I can only imagine how the performance center model is.

Check your throats, I had another guy with one say that he could barely pass a .356" through his, and he wanted the rest of the chambers chamfered on the back because only the extractor star is chamfered for faster/easier loading..

Beings I got it for USPSA, ICORE, etc, as a comp gun, it will almost entirely be DAO fire. I'll play with it in single action and that would be nice for load tuning but I am probably going to put the Apex DAO revolution hammer in the gun at some point too. There's almost no use for SA fire in the high-speed competition i'm into. I would love it if I can get away with running other than Federal primers in it. I already have an M&P Open Division gun that lives on Federals and it chokes on the other choices. I can put a heavier spring in it but don't want to sacrifice my ultra crisp & light 1.5lb trigger pull. Federal primers have been hard to get the last 9 months or so to boot. My other tuned S&W revo's seem to do pretty well with light springs and the lengthened firing pin combo as long as the primers are reasonably soft. I have been shooting my 686 Plus with the Wolff reduced mainspring, ext. firing pin and reliably ignites the cheap S&B SPP's. I did put a shim under the strain screw for a little added tension, a chunk of a piece of white plastic Federal primer card which is just thick enough to add a little extra pressure and it's flexible with the spring. Ideally I need to play with springs some but as is with a full, light as it goes Wolff spring kit, it is light, smooth, and crisp.

I enjoyed your write up. Congrats on the good catch!

Thanks! I'll have a video clip or two up eventually shooting it in competition!

Added bonus of this gun being a moonclip gun..... It's well potty trained! Easy to pickup brass afterwards!

Thanks for the heads up Doug, i'll have a look at that to verify. The cylinder is indeed only chamfered at the center of the extractor star. I assume this is partially because the rounds loaded into the moon clip do seem to point towards centerline a little bit and they want to while dropping a full moon into the cylinder but a full chamfer or at least between cylinders would aid in smoother & more rapid loading. The cylinder does have some sort of anti-erosion coating on it that I really hate to cut off to chamfer the charge holes. I might see about getting a spare cylinder from S&W to do race mods to, I hate permanently altering the original parts to guns. A spare cylinder would solve that.

If it is a competition gun I have no issue modify it. I buy those to shoot a lot of rounds out of. Collector guns are collector guns.
Just do it.

I describe myself as a shooter not a collector.
I do not buy old guns because I WILL SHOOT THEM.
Yep I am that guy.

Nice revolver...I just don't like the 9mm part.

It is a gun for competition play so I will get fair use out of it in that way. If a spare cylinder to modify isn't absurd, ill get one, if not i'll run it as is and see how badly it needs chamfering. I do buy stuff to shoot but I have internal conflict with the collector inside me sometimes! Not really a bad thing!

Nice revolver...I just don't like the 9mm part.

It is a sweetheart and the 9mm chambering is odd, not a oldie but goodie revo cartridge and I really like the .38/.357 for a revo but it's all about intended use. Designed by spec of Jerry Miculek himself. What the 9mm provides is a small cased, high pressure and powder efficient round. The vast airspace in a .38 Special or .357 takes a lot more powder to do the same job because of volume and to make Minor or Major power factor and hold consistant muzzle velocities, tight extreme spreads and standard deviation. The small case of the 9mm makes that a much more viable option besides cheap & plentiful brass and bullets. Cost less to shoot. Not steeped in tradition but it's doing a job. This is why cartridges like .38 Super Comp, .400 Corbon, 9x25 Dillion have dropped off the map. You can do the same job with plentiful 9mm supplies and it perform really well and not spend a fortune on boutique components.

I still have my other revo's for the traditional fun, this one is the hot rodder in the bunch!

As a plinker, I vacillate between the 929 and 986. The 929 gets an extra cylinder for 8 shots compared to 7 shot 986 which would matter in competition. Superficially, I like the looks of the S&W 986.

Mine loves light loads that give recoil in the area of 38 special target loads. It doesn't seem to care what boolit weights I shoot in it. All shoot accurately.

I have both also; shot them today. I am a mediocre shooter but so far have always done better with the 929.

Get ready for a dream shooter. I have em both. Has the recoil of a 22. Accuracy with a 105 gr swc is around an inch or better at our 50 foot range. Awesome gun
