Hello All,

I have been lurking for years but this is my first post. Does anyone here load cast bullets for 6MM-284? Have a Saeco 244 which I just purchase. I have had good luck with 5744, 4759, and 4756 in other calibers (30-06 and 45-70). Are these powders applicable to 6MM, or has your loadings shown something better? Rifle is a custom item built on a Savage 110L with a 24" barrel of unknown make. I bought it used in 1968 and it has always shot in the 1/2" range with jacket loads.

Thanks for any comments

It is quite an over bore for standard cast. I used 12 gr 2400 in a 243 with either the rcbs 95 gr or the Ly 84 gr for around 1600 fps. You might start there and see where accuracy goes south.

MT Gianni,

Thanks for the suggestion of 2400. I'll give it try.

What kind of rifle is your 6-284 ? Someone here probably would buy it. That way you could buy something more cast boolit friendly . Just a thought.

By all means try it! Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done.

....but, cast in a 6mm284 is kinda like trying to re-jet John Force's top fuel funny car for gas mileage.

I like that analogy

I have a 6-284 with a 28" 1:9" bbl; I have not tried it yet but was planning to try the NOE 246-105 FN and Trailboss.
Have tried cast in a 22-6mm (1:14") which is badly overbore and shot well NOE RCBS 225-55 FN and Trailboss. Also 300 Wby LEE 309-200 RN with full case of Trailboss.

Shot the 105's over 5 gr of Reddot in my 6-284; shot surprisingly well. 2.25" at 175 yds, very little wind which is pretty rare.
