Lately Kiera and I have been working on a couple of projects.

First off I taught her how to sew using her grandmother's sewing machine. I have done a lot of sewing in the past and made period costumes for MLer shoots. She decided she wanted to make a satchel so we went to the local craft store and bought some fabric, drew up a pattern and made it happen. The bag has two internal pockets, one with a zipper.

This is now her 'go to' bag.

Then this evening we finished a unit for her closet to hold her shoes and some garments. The 1/2 inch ply I scored free from work. I did the sawing and she did the measuring, marking, drilling, screwing etc.

The unit still has to be sanded and finished in some fashion but we are very happy.

Looks like fun Jeff, enjoy the time you get to spend with your kids because they grow up way too fast.

I was just having a conversation with a lady at church about how sewing is becoming a lost art form (she had made a Christmas outfit for her grand daughter). My mom used to make a lot of my sister's clothes growing up. When I was in middle school, I was made to take a home ec class which I enjoyed, where they taught us to sew, good experience. It's just like building anything else; make a plan and follow it, measure, cut, fasten, all good things to learn.

Very cool! Kids will remember those memories forever. BTW, I learned how to use a sewing machine at an early age, like 8 or 9. Besides "pegging" my pants when that was popular, I also sewed all my military patches on my uniforms, including my dress greens, when I was in the Army, and in the Guard. Not very many guys I knew could do that.

Very good on your part Jeff. My hat is off to you sir. You will have a carpenter and a seamstress in the family with this daughter.

I'm thinking both of those are going to be keepsakes well into her old age and passed down to children and grandchildren. I'm also very jealous of you. My wife and I were never able to have children. We're old enough for grand children now if we'd had any

Wow! That's great! She should be very proud of what she's done and I'm sure the two of you have had a lot of fun. Money can't buy the memories that she will have of the two of you working together. I know that you must be very proud of her and justly so. Give yourself a good pat on the back too . . . you're a good Dad!

Jeff I always enjoy your threads, there just so down to earth, and they remind me of things I saw my Grandparents do back in the day.

Keep up the good work!

enjoy the time when they are young, they go away so fast. Seems like yesterday when my oldest girl was 7 drifting a bead head for trout with a flyrod I built to fit her. That was 1992

Excellent! I'm surprised that you haven't already suggested painting that cupboard a lovely shade of Kiwi Purple!

It is so refreshing to see a parent interacting with their children in such a positive way. Top notch in my book.

Teaching life skills and having quality time with your daughter, nothing better, unless it's shooting with her and I know you've done that too!

Have you considered joining a Foster Grandparent program?

Wow she is growing up fast Jeff, I remember seeing her pic shooting bunnies. You are bringing her up right shooting , fabricating, she will be self reliant and strong, good on you both!

Good work. Making things (and fixing things) is becoming a lost art. Teach what you can to whomever is interested in learning.

Cool jeff. If she turns out 1/2 as good of a person as dad she has a big leg up in this world.
