i`ve found a sc 358156 mold ( waitin on pic before i $)
would this make a better hp boolit than a dc????
also was thinkin of removin the gc & a pin to cast solids with would be nice also.

I prefer the single cavity version to have HP'd.

Here is an example of a 358156 converted as you describe by Buckshot that Ben just sent to me today (his photos).

Very nice workmanship !

That hole don't go through to the base does it?

Ought to be able to use that just about any velocity range you want to now.

Personally I'd leave the GC on a 358156 as you can drive a softer alloy for much better expansion to a higher velocity (actual original .357 velocities - 1450 fps from 6" revolver and 1650 fps from 10" Contender) with excellent accuracy. I've been shooting GC'd & HP'd 358156s for 35+ years and have found that the GC bullet will most often get you 200+ fps more with a softer more maleably alloy at the same accuracy level.

The 358429 Keith bullet HP'd makes a very good PB bullet. That's the one I would use for a PB HP bullet. The 358156 already done as pictured should work well though.

Larry:

I also have the GC / HP version of the 358156 and the HP 358429 & HP 359439 !
All work VERY well !

I thought this would be fun to try though. :) :)

I agree wholeheartedly. People always want to push handguns and have cream puff rifle loads. Well .... I am bass ackward. I want reduced loads for my handguns and when I pick up a rifle, I want rifle like velocities.

The hollow points can still be slowed down and still reach out to surprising distances without all the recoil. Which is why I like them.

thanks fellers
& thank you GLL those are goodlookin boolits , just like i thought they would look .
Larry Gibson , i have`nt thought of leavin the gc on & softer alloys ,thats a very viable point & if i can get the mold i will certainly consider leaving it , point is i`m a plinker & i practice & build hunting loads & ever blue moon my buddy `ll get the notion to drag me to a uspsa shoot.
i`ve read enuff to know that the 358156 is a good plinker without the gc , sooooo!!

I would like to re-emphasize that the bullets and the photos were Ben's work !

I will get to cast with the mould for the first time tomorrow. :) :)
