like the title says sometimes procrastinating pays off . ive been wanting a 30 30 for a while now ive bought and sold probably a dozen or so of them over the years but anyhow I cant believe what they are going for now a days . I commented on a post in this forum last week about a beat up sears model 54 I ran across and was thinking about buying . he wanted 250 for it so by the time i paid tax , background check and so on i would have been in it close to 300 (he did reluctantly agree to come down 25$) like he was doing me a huge favor . this morning a ran across a jm stamped marlin 336 in a local classified for 275 $ i called the guy he lived about 5 min from me . i met up with him checked the rifle out . wood has a few marks and a bit of finish wear but no deep scratches and unlike the 54 i was gonna buy the stock and fore arm actually matched lol . action is tight and bore and bluing good all and all a decent rifle .for 275 i grabbed it brought it home ran the ser. number and it has a mfg date of 1977 . I'm pretty happy with it and happy with the price i paid , i don't consider myself cheap but i refuse to pay 400+ for a used every day run of the mill 30 30 which is pretty much what gun shops in this area are asking

You're going to be a happy camper. 30-30's are so much fun with cast. Two 94's & a 325b.

Every time a local auctioneer company has an on line firearm auction I have to actually laugh at the prices people will bid up on a set of 4 pictures of a firearm. No idea of how tight the action is or condition of the barrel or finish of the blueing, just 4 general photos. I`ve seen late model 94`s go for well over $400 often. People get caught up in bidding and there goes the prices. I just sit back and watch the fun in the last 30 minutes of the auction when the `Snipers` come out of the wood work and out bid everybody else by $10.Robert

click that lil feller. Then hit browse, find your picture you want to upload and click the words "Upload File" (it doesn't look like a button is there but there is). :) Hope that helps

the bottom is the marlin I just bought .the top is a sears mod 45 (marlin ) in 35 rem I bought about 3 or 4 years ago for 175$ . it has a z prefix on ser number which gives it a mfg date of 1964. sorry for the 2 posts I did the pic with my cell phone . ..... I bought a set of used lee 30 30 dies on e bay yesterday for 28$ free ship and stopped at a local shop and bought some once fired brass on my way to work . his price was a little salty and kinda confusing though lol . I asked him if he had any once fired 30 30 brass he dug through a box pulled 3 odd amount bags on the counter 1 had 57 unprimed 1 had 63 primed the 3rd had 82 primed I asked how much he said 20$ I thought ok good deal then he said per bag I said oooooooooook lol . so I handed him a 20$ bill and grabbed the bag with the 82 primed cases and left for work . a little salty on price but I got what I needed . I plan on casting up and powder coating a few hundred bullets for it this weekend with a lee .309 150 gr mold .

the same guy I bought the marlin from that same afternoon posted a win 94 for 250$ . when I met up with him to buy the marlin he told me it was part of a lot he bought from another guy an hour away from here I guess 1 of the rifles in the lot was an older win I guess mod 92 ? in 32 special . he told me the guy wouldn't separate so he bought the whole lot mainly for the 32 special and I guess basicly was selling the rest off priced to move to recoup some of his money .

No way?!?! That is one heck of a deal for someone; wish I was closer!!! Loved my old 94 30-30 but you cant touch an old beater for under $400 around here.

yes it was . most used 30 30 's weather it be a marlin or win are pulling 400 ish around here too . for years 30 30 's were a cheap gun , I bought my 1st 30 30 when I was 18 yrs old it was a used marlin 336 in almost new condition with a 4x32 bushnell with flip up lense covers and a leather sling for 175$. I bought it from a foul mouthed retired old timer who owned a small gun shop mostly as a hobby if he made 20-50$ on a gun he was happy with that.

Look at the price of new ones. A basic Marlin 336 with hardwood stock and matte finish is going for about 500 at my LGS and 600 for walnut. They have a 94 44 mag for about 700 and the 95's are really spendy. A stainless laminated 30-30 was at over 800. $400 for an old JM is more than worth it to many folks as they think the new Marlins are not as good. I bought my last Marlin for 275 and was glad to get it but do not regret my 475 35 Remington with a 24 inch barrel and half magazine. Have not seen one like it since so waiting to see another would have been pointless.
You got a couple of good buys.

There is something classic and timeless about lever guns. I have several from 22 on up to 45/90 with just about every common caliber in between.

I enjoy my semi autos, my bolt guns, my single shots, but my levers are most definitely my favorite.

You have 2 fine rifles sir that will provide you a lifetime of service.
