I have a old NEI 4 cavity mold I bought in the 80s. It is the best casting mold I have ever used. The mold is marked 228 but has very long nose and casts 255. This long round nose feeds great but I have no use for. I am thinking of trading it off but was wondering if pins could be made that would make it a round nose flatpoint about 225 grains. Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

You got a picture?
You want to tell us what caliber it is ? ?
To be asking for information, you seem to be leaving a lot of this story out.

to get 20 grains off the mold weight you'd need both a little flat and a hollow point.
lyman makes the 452374 which is essentially the same design only closer to the weight you want.

Go here

He'll be able to modify your mold for you for a price.
But frankly the course I would advise is to purchase
another mold of similar Design from NOE or Accurate.

What alloy are you casting with to make it that heavy?
The other thought is to have the Bevel Base machined off to make it a flat base which would lighten it.

It casts about 255 with wheel weights

clip on or stick on? You could add some Tin &/or Antimony to lighten your alloy

Keep the mold and buy a Walker Colt to go with it!

It's not cost effective to modify the mold. You're better off selling it and getting what you want from Accurate, NOE or others.

Could the mold be marked for the flat base version (without the bevel base)?

When I get back from Mexico in April I will post it for sale. Thanks all for your advice.
