I would prefer not to shell out the dough to have a custom mold for .361 pistol. Has anyone found that using powder coat to bump bullet diameter by a couple hundredths is as good as having the right diameter uncoated bullet?

PC does add about .002" to the size. I doubt you could get a couple hundredths, but a couple thou will work just fine. I would run them through the sizing die just to make sure they are round and you didn't add .0005" to one side and .004" to the other, but you can bump them a bit with PC. It really works great for those old Lyman molds that some find always drop a thou or two shy of the desired boolit.

my cast are 356 but drops 358. 2 coats of PC they are 361-362. then size them back down to .358. BTW what pistol is this for?

Sorry, meant couple thou, not hundredths.
This is for 38 cal merwin hulbert with bp

I mean, I know the pc will bump size, but does pc engage the rifling and give the accuracy same as having the correct diameter plain alloy

I do, as Beagle333 says, with a Lyman mold for my 45-70.

Works just fine.

Actually the polymer is harder and tougher than the alloy and a PC build out of .003" or more is desirable.
