Got all the major stuff done! I browned the wrong hammer screw, so of course, I'll have to do that later once I get some cold bluing for the next step I have in plan.

I still have to neutralize the actual hammer thats in the warm humid bathroom, after that I'll install it on the lock and Maybe, just maybe! Take it shoot tomorrow and try out the new sight/position set up.

Not a bad kit at all! A ton of fun and the browned lock looks so much better than color case.

I took it very dark, but with the right lighting, tehres a lot to see in the wood. Truoil was also applied to a point that it did not completely fill the grain to a plastic look/feel. It actually feels like its hand rubbed with linseed. Very happy with the way she came out.

Enjoy the blurry pic until its 100% complete and picture worthy LOL.

Traditions St.louis Hawken .50cal kit gun.

That looks like a worthy project. And fun. Can't really make out much in the photo though, which is probably why there have been no responses. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then that one is worth only a couple. More ambient light and no flash will reveal some better detail, even with a cheap camera.

Here's a better one for ya. It was just a teaser pic last night. So far the rife shoots amazing! Next time I will sit down and get serious.

Looks great, Man!
I'd polish that hammer screw head with 400, and then 600, grit carbide paper, degrease it and then heat it evenly ‘til it starts to turn bright blue, then give it an oil coating for protection. Such "fire blued" screw heads were, and are, a thing. It'll be softer after that, but it only serves as a retainer-- The square shaft interface takes all the beating.

I'm going to be browning it. I had 2 hammer screws and browned the wrong one lol. I'm also trying perma blue paste for a little aging as well. Done it before in the past and really liked the outcome of it.

I'll take much better picture tomorrow, just running a cold and low on energy lol.
