I pulled the forend of my Aydt rifle. The man I bought it from swears it is a pre-1900 rifle but "Jos. Limbrunner 1930" was written in the barrel channel. My internet search came up empty.
Has anyone heard of this person? If it wasn't the stock maker then my next guess is it's the name of a previous owner.

.

The proofmarks stamped into the metal parts (normally hidden by the stockwork) should drill down the DOM.

Many gun owners write or stamp their personal ID into stocks, either in the barrel channel, in a buttstock throughbolt hole, or under the buttplate (which I ALWAYS check).

The owners name seems a lot more likely. Here are the markings from the underside of the barrel:
183506 183507

Take a look here

Looks like it was originally proofed 618 or June of 1918

That caught my eye first. I've read elsewhere that prior to 1900 the year was not stamped, making this an early 20th century piece, not late 19th.

Is your rifle an 8x57IR?
I have a Krieghoff Drilling in this caliber and use S&B ammo with .318 Bullets

Wow! Wouldn't that be something? In front of the name and date there is some illegible script, I'll have to try a little harder to decipher it.

Mine is 8.15x46r
32-40 load data works and my cases are formed from 30-30 brass.

Yes on the 30-30, do you have to trim the rims a bit ?
I did on mine

183753The cases I have are "W-W Super" I have no idea when they were made but the rims are fine. My breech face is not recessed so the diameter isn't a problem. The breech block holds the rim tight against the breech and the thickness seems perfect; the faces are parallel and the lock up is good and snug.
