Gray day, but 30˚ Range day for the Mauser. Bringing yellow paint for the gong if needed. If there is snow on the berm, the white painted gong gets lost. No snow?? White on a brown background.

Even with the gong painted yellow, it was difficult to see. I did well though. In the snow, I was able to see my misses in the mud and snow.
I aimed in the spot around the mud.

Shilo,

What are you shooting in the M-48 and at what ranges? I have a few M-48s and like them all. They like my Lyman #323471, 215 grain semi=spitzer boolit and 25 grains of IMR4198. I set the sights at "500" for 100 yard POA/POI. I ring my 400 yard gongs in my big hayfield often with this load and proper sight adjustments.

Walmart has spray paint for 98 cents a can. I have both white and black and change gong color pending snow, or no snow.

LEE 175 gr RN.
I have three load I have worked with. Two cold for development. 19 gr. 4227 gives 1584 fps. Same as 16.5 of 2400. 19 gr 4759 clone gives 1750.
I can ring the 200 yard gong consistently with the sights set at 600 for the sub-1600 load, and the same with the faster load with the sights at 500 yd.

The fellow shooter on Saturday was impressed with iron sight shooting and the consistency that I was hitting. My rifle has a mirror bore and shoots very well. Wish I had more distance.
