I am getting a sheriffs barrel for my Pietta Navy .44. I will need to change out the sight post. Has anyone done this? Can I replace it like a bing rivet? I have always dovetailed a new sight, but swapping out the post might be simpler.

The original post in my Pietta '51/44 was staked in place, and was easily pulled out. I soldered in a taller one. I've also dovetailed in new front sights, and that's the superior method as it gives you some windage adjustment. A simple blade sight with a copper, brass or nickel silver dovetail (any of those metals is far more compliant than steel) is easy to make, and to install using basic tools;

A dovetail with a brass post in it is of course another option. I installed a fiber-optic front sight (made by Marble Arms) in a Walker revolver for hunting, and I like that set-up very much-- In that case you're throwing out any semblance of "period correctness" which, for a '51/44 is all gone anyway.

I do believe I can do that.
Thanks
