I am thinking about putting a Nikon prostaff3x9 40mm on my new Howa mini action. Midway has them at $179. Reviews seem good with a few negatives tossed in. Does anyone have experience with this scope or another recommendation at that price?
thanks

I have about 6 of them I think that they are the best scope in that price range they track and return to zero very well and have clear glass

I put one on my marlin and it does what it's supposed to. No complaints. I really like the bdc retical and the online software. Pretty nice perk.

I've got 4-5 of them. No issues and seem to be on par with my other scopes that cost more.

I have a couple now and have owned a lot of them...all have been very good...on par with my comparable Leupold's.

No problems with mine. I did have a 4x Prostaff Rimfire scope go bad. I had it for 16 yrs on guns from .450 Marlin on down to AR15s. Nikon replaced it at no charge.

the original prostaffs were lacking in the optic category. Not much low light performance. But I bought one of the newer ones (forget if they call it a prostaff 5 or prostaff 7) and its a MUCH better scope. Optically real close to my monarchs and a good bang for the buck.

Went hunting last year and had great vision through mine 45 minutes before sunrise. Great customer service and the http://spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/spoton/spoton.html#:18 can be dialed for your cast boolit and it is right on too, great stuff. Three years on an 06 and still going strong. Keep and eye out because they do go on sale on midway etc. but midway is having $20 off $200 right now.....

I've had one on my Marlin 30AS for the last 4-5 years. Best scope for the price.

I have 3 Nikon scopes. Just bought a Nikon shotgun 3x9 BDC 200 scope for my muzzle loader. Got it at a good price of $ 105. Love my Nikons.

I would not own a nikon, i mounted one on a Ruger 77 .204 for a friend of mine, Later the guy that owned the rifle wanted to sell it but not with the scope so i removed it for him, to my amazement the scope tube was dented by the rings, just like you see on cheap garbage scopes. I have owned a literal TON of leupolds over the years and not one single time have i seen rings bite into the tube, rings rarely mar the finish on a Leupold. Nikon can keep Nikon

I have 3 Nikon pro staff scopes and they are holding up well, for years I was stuck on Simmons 44 Mag series and still have many and like them two even though some of them are over 20 years old

Any company that sponsors Buck McNeely will never get a dime from me, regardless of quality or price,,,,,,,

My guess is that guy didn't know how to properly mount a scope. Rings could have been off and needed lapping or he just torqued the **** out of the right screws instead of properly torqueing them. Ive probably owned a dozen or more Nikons and they never gave me a lick of trouble mounting them. id about bet you a new scope that I can install some rings not perfectly aligned and get me a BIG screw driver and dent any leupold I own the same way.

I can only say good things about my pro staff and I will get more if the need arises and the funds are there.

I got hooked on Nikon products when I bought a set of Monarch Binoc's for an Africa trip. Everyone had Binoc's of course and all the major players were there including Zeiss, Swarovski etc..most cost many times what I paid and everyone agreed after looking through mine that they were stunningly clear and a major bargain worth many times what i paid.

I bought 3 Prostaff 3x9x40 BDC scopes during the Christmas sales and after gift cards they ended up at $75 each. Mounted them on rifles and the optics are superb for the money. Great value.
