A high school buddy of mine took his youngest son and a couple of his friends on a 3 day hunt on an Antebellum Era Plantation in Claiborne County, Mississippi this past weekend. I'll just lead into his story and follow with pics...

David: "The funny thing is that we were crammed into our car on the ride to Port Gibson. Emma, as the lone girl, somehow got to ride "shotgun". I declared that "shotgun", on the trip home, would have to be earned. The person to harvest the largest deer, as measured by rack size, would win the "shotgun" postion on the trip home. Thirty minutes after arriving at camp, Emma (and the other two) suit up for a quick hunt. Within 30 minutes Emma has the winning buck on the ground. Yes this is her first deer ever!"

15yr old Emma with her first deer, a NICE 9pt! WAY TO GO EMMA!!!! Psst: How'd you get by with this one and not get bloodied????

Edit: Dad says Emma got plenty bloodied she just got away with no pics of it!

Not to be outdone, her 18yr old brother Jackson brought this nice 8pt down the next day:

Not one for getting skunked, 15yr old Adam finally got his 8pt on the closing morning of the 3 day hunt:

I hope this is the first of many successful hunts for these kids, I give my friend David the "Extra Effort In Parenting" award for gettin' it done! I know he is proud beyond words! I would be!

Just curious. Wonder what the final dollar amount was for 3 day 3 trophy deer taken at this place?Robert

I can ask but I think it was just given as permission to hunt private land. Does seem peculiar to drive up to a place, get out and get on stand and there is a big buck within half hour...

Edit: As promised, I asked the dad, the hunt was on family land, and not on a management area where you pay by the horn. This was strictly the luck of what came strolling in front of the sights for all 3 of these kids.

I thought the two bucks, middle and right in the photo, came from the same doe. They look very much alike in their horns, especially the brow tines but David tells me that all the bucks on this property have very similar horns.

I remember my Brother taking his Son down to White Oaks plantation in La as a graduation gift. Yes they both took super nice 8 point deer on the 3 day hunt. A deer over 8 points was priced more accordingly, the total hunt cost would be like a good down payment on a tricked out pickup! Although I do think it was great for these kids to get some nice deer.Robert

Now THAT is one GREAT way to celebrate the holiday! Good on yer buddy and his whole family!

One thing though. Ever notice how the biggest deer seem drawn to the females in the party? I've always resented how they do that!

Very nice! Most deer hunters go for years before harvesting a buck as nice as these. Congrats to some very lucky kids!
