Anybody use a 8mm mauser with cast bullets for hunting deer and maybe bear. If so what bullet are you using, thanks in advance, jim

I don't use one to hunt, but have a couple custom molds that are good shooters. I think the 8X57 is one of the best cast chamberings you can get for hunting. Kissing cousin to the .358 Win.

What do you guys think of the "Karabiner" custom molds for 8X57 that Midouth sells? Any experience?

I've got this mold, it is the only one I have for my 8x57. It works well in generous military chambers. I load it with 35gr H4895 to 1,850fps, great hunting load.

321297.
it's meant for the 32 Winchester but fits my model 700 like a glove.
it's nice to use one boolit in 2 different rifle types with such good results.
I just size it 324.

I get good accuracy out of the Lee 324-175-1R I can't say based on experience about effectiveness on game, and I don't push it hard for plinking so also can't say how well it would do at long range. Heavy enough, fairly blunt nosed so it should hit fairly hard, bore rider design.

One of the adult sons of a home missionary from our church & who lives in northern AK has an "as issued" K98 Mauser that he loads with a 225 grain GCCB (out of an NOE mold, I think). Jack has taken all sorts of big game up there with that rifle.

This fall I used an Accurate 32-205T ahead of 32 grains of H4895 for about 1900fps to take a nice doe. THE Accurate boolet is a moderate flat nose, I cast it 2/3 coww & 1/3 soww, air cooled. I TRIED THE Lee Karibeener, but it was too large in my M48. I am looking forward to more hunting with my 8mm's. I have a 358 too, something about using an old Mauser mil surp. hc18flyer

Anybody have some 8mm flat nose bullets that they would sell me?

Sure, I have NOE 325471 fn in coww, sized to 325 or Accurate 32-205T same alloy, same size, both checked with gator checks. The NOE boolet has a small fn, while the Accurate is about .17", if I remember correctly? I used the 205T on a whitetail last month, worked fine! hc18flyer
