Is this a decent scale? Or would I be better off getting an rcbs, dillon, or redding? What's your recommendation. All I'm reloading for is 38 special.

Personally, I would go with the RCBS 505 scale if you could find one or the Dillon. I have both and both are easy and accurate to use.

The Lyman has a plastic base, fixed bearings and skimpy little knife edges.

The RCBS/Dillon scales use a floating bearing system with a cast metal base.

I have the lee safety scale and I trust it. It's just I'd like one a little more user friendly and as another source to verify my weighed power charge.

I also have the Lee safety scale. I hate the thing. That's why I bought the RCBS 505 scale. Much easier to use. I later bought the Dillon Eliminator scale that is also easy and accurate. I use the Dillon most now and the other 2 are in their boxes for back up. The Lee scale will probably never see the light of day again.

The Dillion scale looks exactly like the RCBS 5-0-5 I bought second hand off Ebay. The "advantage" the Dillion/RCBS scales have is the three adjustments on the beam. If you look at the Lyman 505 Pro the beam only has 2 adjustments.
Nothing at all wrong with the Lyman 500 Pro , I used a similar 2 adjustment beam Redding scale for 30 years.
Now that I've used both types , 2 beam adjustment and 3 beam adjustment , I just prefer the scales with 3 beam adjustments . Easier for me to set , adjust and read .

Dillon , RCBS, Lyman Pro or Redding M500 will all do just fine , pick one and load on.

The RCBS 505 I have and the Dillon scale are not exact. There is a difference in the base but the beam, pan and bearing blocks are the same. Both probably made by Ohaus to each companies specs.

Correct, both use the same beam and floating agate bearings - The RCBS 505, 502 and 10/10 are no longer made, being replaced by the M500 and the M1000. All the Dillon Eliminators I have come across have been made in Mexico ( All the RCBS scales made in the last few years have been made in Mexico or China)
