I don't know if this is a good price or not, but thought that some collector might be interested. This is how the advertisment reads:

GARAND M1 RIFLE .30-06
Winchester manafacture 1942.44
New in grease $4950 (that is aussie dollars)

It is for sale at:

Rebel Gun Works
1 Atherton St
Woolloongabba,
Queensland 4102
Australia.
07) 33916744 (you will have to add te country codes in front.)

I have dealt with Rebel many times and they have been a reliable, honest bunch.\

Mick,

If it's really "new in grease" then it's a great price. These have gone for over $10,000 USD from the CMP. The tough part is proving that it's "new" and has never been issued. The rifles that the CMP had in this condition were still in the original bag and box that the manufacturer shipped them in.

My guess though is that it's been through a rebuild and is still packed in cosmoline. This is the same condition that many CMP rifles ship in. If this is the case, then the price is somewhere around $700 USD.

Mick,
A suggestion to you and anyone else reading this post.
If or when a US Military weapon is presented "as new" or "unissued" get a copy of one of the late Mr. Harrison's books. He published one on the 1911/1917Pistols/Revolvers, all the 1903's, 1917 Enfield's Rifles, M-1 Garands and M-1 Carbines.
To some it may seem a bit anal but when spending big bucks, Harrison's books can not be beat.
He breaks each weapon down part by part and explains in detail what part is correct for the serial number range. Also inspectors marks are explained and dated. :drinks:

+1 for 10-x
for that money it's a small addition to the price to get the real story

My first thoughts were that it was probably FTR'd or whatever you guys call it. Mick.

PS, I have a dozen or so new en-bloc clips downstairs, maybe I should buy it! NOT!

Seems really unlikely Mick, especially in AU.

take a look at it. should be easy to tell if you have an idea about Garands. If it is unissued that would be a steal. If it has been shot and then stored but in excellent shape it would be about right. What is the dollar vs the aussie dollar/pound.

Of course the above statement is if the Garand is Original from the factory. Not to be confused with a rebuild that has been unfired.

What is a 'regular' Garand worth in Australia? CMP still has them for
between $445 and $5000 for particular sniper models. I'd say you
can get a decent one for under $700 in the US at most gun shows.

14 years jail if you are caught with it off license :roll:

Yes, thank goodness for the semi ban in AU. I don't sleep at night worrying about bands of roving bank robbers storming around your country side with their Garands in tow...........................[smilie=1::roll:

OOPS! I'm sorry to have forgotten about your semi-auto ban. Somehow
it just didn't register that a Garand was a "bad rifle". . . . .

I didn't mean to pick at a sore spot, really.

No longer a "sore" point, the gummint just forced us to become better and faster shooters, with single shots & bolts. :Fire::Fire::mrgreen::mrgreen:

Good call!

When they tightened up on semis here I did think the boffins were best not knowing how quickly I could empty 13 rounds out of my then owned .32-20 Mod 92. :drinks:

I think that speed of the pistol caliber Winchesters was a big point in their
original popularity in the Indian wars in the old west.

They are pretty fast, for sure.
