I was just playing around with some BH 209 in my 45-90. I am trying to reload some 535gn postels, and found that with the bullet seated where I prefer it against the lands (c.o.l. 3.55) I have about 3/8ths of an inch air space in the cartridge. I have a Mirocu Winchester 1885 with 34 inch barrel. I am wondering if anyone else has ran up against this, and what they used to fill the gap.
Not really wanting to stir the purist pot, just experimenting with my rifle.

I have the same issue in my 42 Wesson. Had about that much gap. Can't think of the company now that makes thick wads, but I use a 3/8 thick wad on top the powder. Checked with the powder co. and they said it was ok. I'll try to get the name of the wadmaker. but I got them either from Natchez supply or Track of the Wolf.

Thank you very much semtav! Sounds like a better deal than Dacron. Merry christmas

Hello bignut,
I've been loading 20 gr. Black MZ with a piece of biodegradable packaging peanut as filler in 45 Colt.
Some claim not necessary but I figure it don't hurt.

I"ve been shooting it in my 45/100 and using dacron as a filler with no problems at all, I do notice the dacron blowing out the end of the barrel is all.
