Yeah, prices are relative but I prepared myself at a young age to make adequate money when I left the nest...I grew up on the short end of the stick as far as money goes and that left an impression on me. As long as you have enough, what more can you ask for...the Good Lord above watches my 6.

I grew up in Texas, raised by a Christian family and had a Famous Lawman for a Father...that wasn't easy, we never got along! But, as far as the people of a State go, there's none better. A little redneck and steer-neck a little hi-teck-neck, lots of oil-necks but basically freedom loving people with a reverence for the old ways and the old timers.
As a kid, my best memories of conversations about historical events came from old timers like my Great Gramma Mother Minnie...she's from Missouri, been there done that type of lady, her first husband was a bank robber, I can still hear her exclaim, "I had to run him off!"...her daughter Bertie Fay married a James out of Missouri and became my Gramma James, Nanny we called her.
All of my best memories from childhood are from Texas...

If I had the wherewithal...I'd take a sawzall and cut around the California border, kick this state off in the Pacific and drag Texas over here and shove it in place...can't beat the mild climate in the winters and this drought will let up eventually, but I like it here in the mountains...so, I'm dug in and staying put.

OS OK,
You are definitely very correct, Sir! It's why I haven't found one worth marrying yet. Why is it that a good mold or good gun is easier to find than a good woman?

Of course we're in the lead! I mean, what else am I going to do besides work, cast, load, and shoot? Chase crazy women? I've made that mistake. Playing with a pot of melted alloy is MUCH safer!

Honestly...I can't imagine being youthful again and doing the dating scene. My drop dead beautiful adopted daughter has taken 42 years to get engaged (for the first time too)...she waited so long Mom and I used to worry about her and sometimes try to have conversation on the subject. All we ever got out of Niki was..."Mom or Dad, you wouldn't believe the men that are out there and if I brought one of them home they wouldn't last 10 minutes around Dad!"

If it makes you feel better, I'm 37, and avoid my parents around the holidays cause they keep giving me the same kind of speech, usually lasting 20 minutes to sometimes an hour, except the "Cliff's Notes" version is "It's time you found a nice girl... It would be nice to have some grand kids... You're gay, aren't you?" Then they get offended when I tell them I can easily find someone to practice giving them grand kids with at the closest bar, but I'd rather it was a woman that is worth keeping around rather than paying child support to and hoping she stays away. For some reason they forget that part. Sounds like you raised a smart daughter.

Put them all together and call it the country of Commonwealth. I was going to say something like all of you talk funny anyway, but I decided not to. I have been to Australia, New Zealand, and met my wife in England who was born in Scotland. Loved every minute of each visit. We visited Scotland and my wife introduced me to her relatives. We had a great time talking with one of her uncles. I caught about every 4th word of what he was saying. Would have loved going to a pub with him, especially after he had a couple points. As for Canada, I was stationed in Limestone Maine for three winters. That is close enough to being in Canada.

Don't feel bad ... by the time my Uncle Harry from England came out to Canada with his wife Elsie my Dad had lost most of his English accent, but my Uncle Harry retained his for the rest of his life. Most of the time when he spoke I couldn't understand him and my Dad had to translate for me ... and he was speaking English! :-)

It would be interesting to see how those numbers would stack up compared to the population of each state. I'm not motivated to do it though. Probably because Texas would not be in the lead if you figured it that way. :)

For example, figuring it per million people,
South Dakota would be 5.86, Texas would be 2.45, Arkansas would be 2.96, and Arizona would be 2.97.

The advantage would be towards the states with lower, more rural populations.

Well, the existing poll tells us who has the *most* members. I was just pointing out that if you looked at it with respect to members per some amount of population, then the numbers could shift quite a bit. Texas and California have large urban areas where the liberals are more likely to live and as such, they are less likely to own guns. Of course, California is even worse than Texas in that regard. And then you get to consider how many of those who own guns actually reload for them, much less actually cast bullets to reload. Once you factor in the percentage of people living in apartments (which you see a lot of in high density urban areas) who are less likely to be smelting lead or casting, our numbers go down even more. Areas that have a strong gun culture and are more rural would seem to have the advantage if you can pair that with a state with low population that is mostly rural.

In the end though, with statistics, you can mine the data however you want to get the conclusion that you wanted in the first place. :)

I forgot to mention that internet connectivity and the tendency of the people in an area to frequent such forums might have some effect on the numbers.

With Alaska, it might have something to do with those long winter nights and needing something to pass the time. :)

It would be easy enough to create a chart that gave the number of members per 1M population, but explaining *why* some of those numbers worked out the way that they did, that gets a lot more subjective. You have to start looking at everything from demographics to gun culture to weather to internet connectivity. It gets a lot more complicated when you try to determine *why* something happened.

On a side note, up until 1934, Texas had a greater population than California. At that time, they both had around 6.05-6.06M people. Today, Texas has 70% of the population that California has.

As a side note regarding that wall...I listened to a fella on a call in show just now saying he thought a set of high-speed rails on top of that wall or within the wall would be a good idea for shipping goods from the Gulf to the Pacific and selected points in-between, possibly passengers included from both sides as long as you can keep the people separated at the stops...perhaps passenger cars that open to the North or South exclusively...not a bad idea?
