Okay, not qualified for this forum (used a 125 gr SST - 300 BO), but a great moment in her life and mine. What a great hunt. My heart was POUNDING! She made a great shot and took out both lungs. Last night of rifle season. Her second deer of the season. Her 3rd deer in her last three trips out (crazy). She's 13.

My daughter will kill prairie dogs like swattin' flies in a cow barn, but she just can't bring herself to shoot a deer.

Nice! I started my youngest son with 125 grain jacketed bullets in a .308 with 37 grains of 4895. Very little recoil, still kills fine.

What general part of Kansas are you in? We're up in the Flinthills and are fortunate to have a lot of public land around Milford lake to play on.

Thank you to all for the kind words! I showed this thread to my daughter. For some reason she doesn't like her smile. I always tell her to smile in pictures. But she usually resists. I too think she has a great smile (really big!). It made her feel great to read your comments. Thanks again!

To answer the question: I hunt in NE Kansas mainly Atchison and Jefferson counties.

You are the sneaky dad.... Get her hooked on hunting with store bought ammo ---- then get her into reloading :-D. Congrats

You are the sneaky dad.... Get her hooked on hunting with store bought ammo ---- then get her into reloading :-D. Congrats While I am sneaky, they were handloads in 5.56 brass I scrounged from the range and converted. I am a scrapper for sure. Store bought ammo? Now that would be embarrassing!

When I was stationed at Leavenworth before I retired, we hunted a huge patch of WIHA land just north of Achison, terrific place and lots of deer and never saw anybody else using it. Can't remember exactly how to get out to it, but it ought to be in the pamphlet KDWP published every year.

Nice buck too.

WOW just WOW! Her face says it ALL dad! Yessir! A very fine hunt! Now you gotta start her on her own cast iron stuff, by the time she gets ready for a nest of her own it will be well seasoned and any boyfriend with half a brain would know better than to do her wrong! BONK! Parenting don't get no better!
