Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has tried Trail Boss in their SKS using a 155gr bullet? The Lee Reloading Handbook says that the useful case capacity of the 7.62x39 case is 2.03cc. 9gr of Trail Boss dropped from my Lee Perfect Powder measure is at 2.13cc. This is much to high for this case. However, dropping to 7-8gr of Trail Boss should fit just fine.

I have a Yugo M59/66 that I can either use with the gas on or off. If someone has tried this type of loading, does it produce enough pressure to cycle the action?

why trail boss? you dont need the bulky powder to fill the case it hard to get enough medum to slow burning powder in the case to get decent velocity anyway

Looking for a plinker load for use with softer alloys. Think this type of loading will work?

don't know about the sks, but have been using 6-8 grains behind a 205 grain in 8x56r. So I would expect the pressure to be high enough Trail boss isnt really a low pressure load, only low velocity, only one way to tell, role a few and be certian that none will remain in the barrel. The possibility of one remaining in the barrel is always my fear. Do have a bolt 7.62x39 and it might be interesting to role some cast for it. (170 ranch dog). Let us know how the pressure is. Isnt the Roosky cartridge much smaller(volume) than a 30/30. I think 9g TB is about 30,000cup in a 30/30?

I also have a yugo sks and had to go to IMR4895 to cycle it. I wouldn't want a softer aloy, it might deform when loaded from the magazine.

My alloy is at a hardness of about 10. Not very hard, but seems to work well from bolt action magazines. Was hoping to use it in the SKS. If it does not cycle, I will just turn off the gas and use it as a bolt action. May just try it to see. If it doesn't work, I have some plus metal from a group buy from last year I can add to harden things up a bit.
