Beautiful gun. How's the recoil with the small grip frame? It felt a bit
"worrisome" in my hands . . . . .

My old SuperBlackhawk is a lot clunkier. I like the overall feel, but worried
about recoil with full loads.

Nothing to worry about. these are a little heavier than the original flattops, but not by much. Comfortable to shoot and control. I have smaller hands and have no trouble with the recoil.

I had one for a little while, I kept getting smacked in the knuckle but then again I have big hands. I was launching 250gr keiths over more 296 than any sane man would desire and hand no problems other than the occasional knuckle rapping. The throats on mine were over .433

I sent mine to Alan Harton for a Bisley Grip conversion. I also sent along a Ruger Maximum cylinder cuz mine has oversize throats too.

Just think how much money you'd save if you only cast your own boolits. ;) Just kiddin' nice piece at a very nice price. Dennis

Nice piece!

I still can't imagine how some of you guys get smacked in the knuckle by a Super Blackhawk? Never happened to me, and I can't figure out the mechanics of it. Just doesn't move that way, that I can see.

And I can't figure out how anybody doesn't get smacked in the knuckle by a Super Blackhawk. ;)

Nope, it's just the size and shape of your hands, I think. When I grab a Blackhawk, the trigger guard just contacts part of the knuckle on my middle finger. I thought it was just part of the deal shooting single actions. :Fire:

Hi Mick,

Ya know, never heard that expression before but not really sure if I want to know!

The Scots have a similar saying:

"Ah., he has the breeze in his drawers."

Means that the poor sod is so poor, his pants are worn through in the bum.

We also say, 'he couldn't rub two pennies together.'

I love my Anniversary flat top! I put on a set of custom grips from Cary Chapman (www.clccustomgrips.com) and did the poor man's Ruger trigger job (pull one leg of the trigger spring off its post). It's probably my most accurate revolver.

i took it out with some handloads sat.
just busting rocks and having fun.
a few years ago i hung up a 4" x 20" clanger at 125 yds. from a pipe at my clubs range.
i hit it a few times and got real close many times shooting freehand.
that is a real small target for me at that distance ( i am no great handgunner)
what that tells me is that this is an accurate sixgun.
i really like it a lot.

Picked it up and now have to order a Lee mold and dies. I would appreciate some suggestions for the mold. Preferably for a bullet that will give good accuracy and be good for deer hunting. This is my first 44 magnum. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks, got all of the required stuff ordered in order to cast for this revolver. Looking forward to seeing how it does with cast. I also purchased a box of 44 mag ammo today while at Walmart and at over $32.00 a box I hope my cast does well. [smilie=1:

I saw one used at a gun show for $400 but didn't have the funds at the time. I have been wanting one of these to match my anniversary .357 so will have to keep an eye out.

There isn't much middle ground about the DRAGOON (square back SUPER) grip frames....either love it or hate it! The HUNTER has all of its' good attributes but none of its flaws because of the rounded back. It is the best grip I've found in almost 40 years of RUGER ownership. All my RUGERS have either HUNTER or DRAGOON grip frames or are BISLEYS.

I'm sure glad people feel the way they do. I got a bunch of used DRAGOON grip frames at reasonable prices, traded XR3-REDs off my VAQUEROS for others plus sold a bunch of the XR3-REDs. It don't happen very often that everyone is happy on a deal; but no complaints or "bad mouthing."

Try using a DRAGOON on your 50th Anniversary gun...I put one on an original 44 FLAT TOP and it really improved it. A HUNTER would be better if you don't have a problem with a stainless grip frame on a blued gun...I don't!

Jack19512

I've smaller hands and the grip on my 50th .44 fits me perfect. I've had mine since June of last year and have shot it quite a bit. I've settled on the following loads;

WLP primers
Javelina lube
All cast bullets in W-W cases
XTP bullets loaded in PMC cases with

Lee 200 gr cowboy bullet
Any alloy/.430
6 gr Bullseye
940 fps

RCBS 429-250-K
WWs +2-3% tin/.430
22 gr 2400
1330 fps

RCBS 429-250-K
WWs+2-3% Tin/.430
9 gr Unique
1060 fps
Photo is of this load. Twice around the cylinder. Target did not give a real defining aim point but I was pleased with the results.

Lee TL429-240-SWC
Any alloy/.430
5 gr Bullseye
795 fps
WRA .44 Special cases

I've a GB keith mould of 429421 style but haven't tried it yet.

Hornady 240 gr XTP
24.5 gr H110
1427 fps

PMC factory 180 gr HPs
1660 fps

The real 250-K from RCBS is one of the best. The 240GC is very accurate also.
