I went to Angola, IN last night to do a little shopping.
I stopped at Rural King and looked over their firearms and spied a Marlin lever gun and ask to fondle it and turned out to be a 1894 Marlin in 44 magnum.
The metal finish was very good and the wood to metal fit was better then any of the 1970's Marlins I own. The wood finish was a little dull, but still nice looking.
I did not work the action, as it was wrapped with a zip tie. The price seemed reasonable at 639.00 dollars, at least cheaper than a 357 in the same model. If I had not just made a gun purchase I would have gave it a lot of serious thought.

Rural King is a good place to stop by but will sink the budget ship.
Ya like to think the rem-lins would finally be a good buy. Last I looked at Marlin Owners the running was about 50-50.

Do the new Marlins have the litlle box engraved on the left side of the receiver as on the 336W?

Start budgeting, I really like mine. Much better all the way around when I compare it to the older model '94 I had. Used it to great effect at 125 yards last week:)

Darn, I was hoping they would skip the box on the side.

$639.00 is very high, especially from a chain store. My local guy gets $549.00 for them.

Not around here. They are all around $725 for one. It depends on where you live.

Wow, did not know that. For that price I would go for a Henry or Italy/Japan made 92 replica.

That is the reason I've never bought one, you'd almost have to shoot round balls to get it to shoot good.

Stupid crazy for the wrong twist.

Main reason I don't have one. Have everything to load 44 Mag. Don't have any desire to shoot it out of a handgun. And I'm not a fan of any other pistol caliber levers. Oh well, I will hold on to all the components and tooling in hopes that maybe one day they will fix it.
