I just bought a new in the box, single cavity, 358009 mould. Paid more for it than I should have, but I was having a hard time finding one and decided if I found one in good shape I'd pay more than I normally would for one.

I want to try this in my Remington 700 CDL. Remington lists the barrel twist as 1-16" (no idea why they didn't do at least 1-14" when they produced these). The Greenhill formula says it would stabilize a bullet up to 1.2" long. My cousin wants to try it in his '95 Winchester in 35 WCF as well.

I believe the 358009 would make a great elk bullet pushed to about 2100 fps or so and cast about 16-18 BHN.

Anyone have any luck launching this thing from a 1-16" out to 200 yards or so and won't I fair better with a faster velocity 2000-2200 or so versus 1600-1800 fps?

I just figured I'd give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'll keep the mould around. I'll have a faster twist 35 Whelen someday anyway.

Probably will. It will be relative to load balance and accuracy standards. What we won't be able to answer is for how far. As velocity is lost, groups will eventually start expanding on you.

So, you are going to have to develop the load and test that for yourself.

Fortunately you aren't going to have to perform for the kill zone of a house cat. You are actually going after an Elk. So accuracy requirements have a little more slack in them and your range results will tell you when the game is over.

I've used a version of that bullet, at around 2180 fps, for deer, elk, and buffalo. It works just fine. This from 1-12, and 1-14 barrels.

I've stabilized the 358009 in a 1-16 twist .35 Remington. Of course the velocity wasn't much and I haven't been back to play with it after the first trial. They did all hit point on at 100 yards./beagle
