TC New Englander Peep question

I have the TC Peep Sight made for the New Englander. I have to drill a second mounting hole in the tang. Which tang screw do I go off of? The lower or upper tang screw? Thanks

use the lower hole for mountin' yer sight then drill & tap one in the middle for the 8x32 upper screw.

of course now, if ya wanta shoot yer gun for 1/2 a mile like these paper-patch fellers, ya might come out ahead if ya use the top screw in the front hole of yer sight. [smilie=1:

Here is my New Englander, just got it put together the other day. Weather permitting i might get out and shoot it tomorrow. Idahoron drilled and tapped the tang for me, the New Englander tang is completely different than a Renegade or Hawken, The Lyman 57SML will NOT sit flat on the tang, I had to play with different shims from front to rear to find the combination that worked best, if you take the slide out of the 57 and put a long straight edge on top of the flat surface of the 57 i was able to get mine to run dead even down the length of the barrel. I put a Lyman 17AHB Globe up front, and like my others i am using a Lee Shavers insert. I ended up having to heat and bend my hammer so it would clear the peep. Not a big deal, just not as easy as a Renegade or Hawken.

I actually have the correct TC factory peep for the new englander. I'm having a gunsmith drill and tap the second tang hole so I can mount it. I dont have the stock and tang as it went to the shop. The smith questioned me as to which tang hole that I wanted him to go off of. There are no directions with the peep (lost them somewhere). Yes I had the barrel rebored to a faster twist to shoot 52cal PP bullets.

If you tried to mount a peep in the front tang hole you would need an INSANELY tall front sight.
