I have an 1894cb in .357. As advertised, wad cutters don't feed. I have a four cavity Lyman 358311. Would that boolit be safe in the tubular mag?

Probably not. The round nose is likely to be able to reach the primer and
things could get pretty exciting. You need a flat point larger than the primer
by a good bit to be safe.

I have shot 358311's in my Marlin 1894. I have had no problems. If worried you could always use a flat TP when you are lubing and sizing them to make sure. The 311291 is a RN and a favorite in a 30-30 In my experience you need more of a pointed than a RN to cause detonation in a tubular mag. Also their isn't much recoil in a 357 mag. Mark

Think about the angle the rim causes rounds to lie in...I cannot see a boom/boom mag bangin ever happening...much adoooo about nothing IMHO.

This is just my opinion based on no scientific facts whatsoever....but then again I was not designed to be held back by fear and/or common sense.

One major detriment to loading cast boolits in my Marlin 357, is meplat size. I think it is around 80% when you begin having a problem if you want to crimp in the crimp groove.

Not the question you asked, but an important thing to remember when you start working up loads.

I purchased this mould:

Lyman 4-Cavity Bullet Mold #358665 38 Special, 357 Magnum (358 Diameter) 158 Grain Flat Nose

for loading my wife's Marlin 1894 and my Uberti/Win '73. I was worried about the round nose setting off a chain fire (by rumor only).

This boolit seems to be working well, so far.

Why dont you look at a LEE mould the 358-158RF, it is available in a six cavity and the LEE # is 90692. It is a flat base, one grease groove, crimp groove and a flat point. I got this for my 1894 marlin in 38spl.

I second that; it feeds slick as can be in 38 cases; I have yet to try them in 357 cases.
