S&W model 19-4 4 inch with an unshrouded barrel. I was looking at used guns today at a local gun shop. There was a 19-4 with a barrel w/o a lug. It was factory S&W 4 inch barrel, heavy contour, with a white insert front sight. The bluing all matched and it looked like original high polish blue. I have never seen a M19 without the lug. Did this exist as a factory gun? Please LMK I'm seriously interested in buying it. I just want to know what I'm getting in to.

Without an ejector rod shroud or without a lug at the end of the ejector rod?

Without an ejector rod shroud looks like a Heavy barrel model 10.
Receiver is marked 19-4

Sounds sweet. Sure it's a .357 Magnum?

If SS, it's a M-65 IIRC, and if blued, a M-?, but both were made. They were mainly made for PD's where lackamoney was a problem, and they were cheaper than the adj. sighted M-19's. Good guns. I carried a 3" HB .357 with Parole, and it shot VERY well! I did an action job on it, but left springs full strength, or nearly so, and got grips to fit me well. Loved the RB! It was quick to bring down out of recoil for subsequent shots. I loved mine. Wish I still had it!

It's Blued, with adjustable sights. Has all the distinct features of a M19-4 except the barrel.

I would say it's a 19 with a 13 barrel.

Can you say parts gun? I knew you could. The M-19 had a nasty habit of cracking right at 6 o'clock on the forcing cone. Somebody found a replacement barrel from an M-13 and stuck it on. I betting it will shoot high.

Yes, definitely go into it as a shooter thinking it's a replacement barrel and make sure the front sight is high enough for the adjustable rear.
